My Geology at U Wyo Website
My passion for photography all started when I wanted to capture certain aspects of the natural beauty of Seneca Creek by my house in Maryland, where I grew up. I started with a simple point and shoot camera and when I decided that I could no longer go without control over focusing, I worked my up to the Canons EOS line and the equipment I have now.
I am completely self taught, but tend to spend a lot of time practicing by shooting my cats, reading articles, books, and learning from other photographers.
I am a geologist by trade and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in geology from the University of Wyoming in Laramie. I got an undergraduate degree in geology from Michigan State University and am a bleeding green Spartan at heart.
Many of my photographs come from geology field trips and my research areas. Not only do I carry the extra load of photo equipment, but I also always leave some extra room for rocks! :) Looking at geology is great, understanding it is even better, and using photography to teach people to appreciate it is the best. I hike, camp, rock climb, ski, snowshoe, and play hockey.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Michigan, Maryland, and the Appalachian Mountains, although living in Wyoming is a dream come true for me.
I will forever be a student exploring all the hikes, animal trails, and aspects of the outdoors. I love to find and photograph details in nature that remind me to appreciate the world we live in a little more and hope that my photography can inspire you to do the same. Maybe you’ll learn a little science along the way, too :)
